Workshop conducted by Ada Rave and Nicolas Chientaroli:
We are two musicians working in free improvisation for more than ten years. For the last three years we conducted free improvisation ensembles in Buenos Aires and we moved to Amsterdam to continue our work with the improvisers of this part of the world.
NICOLAS CHIENTAROLI
Pianist, improviser and composer, was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1982.
After attend high school, he joined the Technologic Institute of Contemporary Music (Instituto Tecnológico de Música Contemporánea - ITMC), where after he taught for six years, and went resolutely to jazz and free improvisation once the career was finished. He studied with Ernesto Jodos, Enrique Norris and with Susana Kasakoff classical music.
He has recorded three albums as composer and pianist with his trio:
"La Música Está Prohibida"- / "Music is forbidden" - Blueart Records 2008, with Carlos Alvarez on bass and Hernán Rodriguez on drums. “La casa caliente” / "The Hot House" - Sofa Records 2011, with the same lineup as the previous recording, and “Viajeramente” - Pan y Rosas Discos 2013, with Carlos Alvarez on bass and Sebastián Groshaus on drums.
As a composer and pianist he has also led the group “La Gran Cena” / "The Big Dinner", formed by Enrique Norris on cornet, Pablo Puntoriero on alto sax, Ada Rave on tenor sax, Juan Manuel Bayon and Carlos Alvarez on double bass and Sergio Verdinelli on drums.

He has co-directed the group "Los Improvisadores Gráficos" / "The Graphics Improvisers" along with Ada Rave, alto sax; Hernán Sama, tenor sax and Martin López Grande, drums, with whom he recorded the album "Los Improvisadores Gráficos" / "The Graphics Improvisers" 2011. This group worked the improvisation through the book of Cornelius Cardew, Treatise.
He is part of the group "Las Formas Avanzan" / "The Forms Advance" along with Marcelo Jusid, guitar and vocals; Martin Calegari, poetry; Ricardo Jusid and Martin Schavelzon, bass; Ada Rave, sax; Javier García Atencio, drums; and guest musicians. This group works with improvisation through music, poetry and theatre.
He is a member from the contemporary jazz and free improvisation trio from Andrés Elstein, recording the album "La Caja" / "The Box" by the end of 2012.
He is part of the group "Las Formas Avanzan" / "The Forms Advance" along with Marcelo Jusid, guitar and vocals; Martin Calegari, poetry; Ricardo Jusid and Martin Schavelzon, bass; Ada Rave, sax; Javier García Atencio, drums; and guest musicians. This group works with improvisation through music, poetry and theatre.
He is a member from the contemporary jazz and free improvisation trio from Andrés Elstein, recording the album "La Caja" / "The Box" by the end of 2012.
ADA RAVE
Saxophonist, improviser and composer, was born in Chubut (Argentina) in 1974.
Since 2000 begins her musical development within the local jazz scene from Buenos Aires. Interested in jazz, free improvisation and composition has done her own projects and also collaborated with other musician's projects performing in several places from Argentina. Since 2013 she is based in Amsterdam performing with several musicians in The Netherlands and Europe and researching about her personal approach to the sound and interaction with other musicians and environment, expanding her passion for the Free Improvisation.
She was educated with the teachers: Carlos Lastra, Enrique Norris and Rodrigo Domínguez. She is graduated from the Jazz's career at the Manuel de Falla Conservatory of Buenos Aires, directed by the master Ernesto Jodos. Also attended several workshops: Wade Matthews and Stephen Nachmanovitch, Barry Astchul and Mark Elías.

She has recorded two albums as composer and saxophonist, "Los Ritos del Sueño" / "The Rites of the Dream" (2008) with her quintet Proyecto Organico Rave / Rave Organic Proyect (Francisco Salgado: trombon; Nicolas Chientaroli: piano; Pablo Vazquez: contrabass and Pablo Diaz: drums) and "La Continuidad" / "The Continuity" (Pai 2012) (pyr 042) with Ada Rave Quartet (Wenchi Lazo: guitar; Martin de Lassaletta: contrabass and Martin Lopez Grande: drums).
Involved in other projects, she has recorded along with Carlos Alvarez Quartet ("Viejo Cactus" / "Old Cactus"), Tatiana Castro Mejía Quartet ("Ciclos" / "Cycles"), Augusto Urbini - Resistencia Chaco ("A Red Door Somewhere from the Czech Republic"), with Los Improvisadores Gráficos" / "The Graphics Improvisers"; Rodrigo Núñez Quartet ("Vértigo Seguro" / "Assured Vertigo"), Andrés Elstein Trio, ("La Caja" / "The Box"), and an album with Jorge Espinal, Lulo Vitale and Nicolas Chientaroli Relatos de Terodactilo (pyr121)
Besides playing music, she is the initiator and organizer of a jam session for free improvisation (Buenos Aires and Amsterdam), and also a concert organizer.
Simultaneously she is dedicated to music education since 2000. Currently she teaches saxophone, jazz ensembles, and free improvisation ensembles.
